Saturday In Design, Sydney Design 09

I had a super wonderful day traipsing around the design precincts of Sydney, through Waterloo, Redfern & Surry Hills, for what was one of the opening days for the Sydney Design 09 Festival - for Saturday in Design.
My great design - partner in crime & good friend from
colour & design school, Stephanie, came along with me - and boy did we pound some pavement together! Along with viewing some amazing design stores & exhibitions teamed with the people, the exhibitors, organisers and gorgeous food & wine - some glasses before noon - made it a perfect August day in Sydney to have a design sensory overload... And I can't wait to do it all over again!
Here's a snapshot of some of the wonderful destinations we visited today, and hope to be able to use for future client requests! If you get a chance be sure to visit them there are some truly stunning pieces for all acquired tastes & looks!
---------------------------------
It was a true pleasure meeting, Kim Snow, the designer craftsman & the man behind these devine pieces furniture & lighting, brand & store - especially having admired his pieces through many editorial pieces through Belle, Vogue, Inside Out and many others - this morning. Being a little earlier on the scene we were able to really chat with Kim and we were able to find out a little more about his pieces and exchange aesthetic ideas... a real treat, and a real gentleman, can't wait for a reason to go back - even for a well rounded chat on art & design - so refreshing!

Exhibit - interiors & lighting/ decor
ArteArte Sofas manufacture and import high-end sofas and upholstered seating. Arte Sofas collection is influenced by design, evolving from many years of involvement in the manufacturing of high-end pieces for leading architects and interior designers, therefore creating their own collection line created to satisfy an increasingly demanding market. See the imported, high-end line by leading boutique Italian manufacturers, Busnelli, and Nube sofas designed by Carlo Colombo.

James Richardson/ Sit Work Weave
Since 1953 the James Richardson Furniture range has rapidly grown incorporating a collection of contract chairs from leading manufactures in Europe, predominately Italy and the Czech Republic. Here we fell in love with a Thonet style chair from James Richardson called the Bentwood Classic - in raw - you can make it into any colour or stain for any space or room! Just love the infinite options!!
The Country Trader
More than just an antiques store, with foundations in French antique furniture and a keen eye for the new and indigenous, the Country Trader pieces are unique and exclusive; from the witty, dramatic and funky to antique pieces of style and impeccable provenance. For anyone looking for something individual and inspired to breathe life into interiors, almost every item in The Country Trader’s gallery is a one-off.

Designer Rugs
Designer Rugs in the enchanting surrounding of The Country Trader to experience the latest collections and trends from Designer Rugs. Including the designs from Fashion label Easton Pearson, Catherine Martin, Textures and Hand-Knot collections. We gained an insight into the fashion and costumes that inspired the Easton Pearson and Catherine Martin collections.

Rogerseller
Rogerseller continues to be your destination for unique, memorable, design inspired solutions. As innovators, they will be showcasing the latest trends as featured in the recent Cersaie and Ish trade fairs. Stand out features at both fairs were the move to black and white combinations, as well as the continual move away from hard edges to a definite softer more feminine influence. Rogerseller’s space is guaranteed to excite and inspire with the latest bathroom, kitchen and tiling products.

One of my favourite furniture & design destinations for sheer elegance in all pieces that your eye could rest upon...

Iken Commercial Interiors with Macquarie Textiles
Iken brings innovative and inspiring products to the work environment, and teamed with Macquarie Textiles for a fabulous Autumnal effect by using carpet and fabric as leaves & Skandia style trees on walls and the ground for the in the park exhibit... They also had a super cute draw card having about 6 Dalmatian dogs from pups to a beautiful Chocolate spot 6 year old named Ollie, to pat!

Cafe Culture Australia
Their wonderful downtown Surry Hills showroom was transformed into a space of ‘Decadent Nonsense’. Think mysticism, gluttony, the unexpected and old world apothecary-esque... superb furniture several chairs I had my eye and huge amounts of cheese, chocolate, fruits, champagne and a tarot reader! A fun and fabulous time had!

  2. Some fantastic images in there - I love the rug in the Designer Rugs image, and the chair in FY2K - such a feminine feel to it.
