Rolling Text... White on Black Typography.

Top - Nate Berkus
Centre & Bottom - Print Dolls

Couldn't go past these images of 'Rolling Text - White on Black'.... Typography used as a design element and decor item can be bring a fresh, contemporary, post modern graphic approach to a room - it offers a focal and anchor point... and depending the text a great talking point for your room. I really enjoy the playfulness of them.
The top image is from Nate Berkus - whose style I really enjoy - sophisticated, cosy, grand and contemporary with nods to the past - very 'Palatial' and the centre & bottom image are from a Sydney - Northern Beaches based company called 'Print Dolls' who are inspired by vintage destination blinds originating from old buses, trams & trains. You may remember that I posted about Marika Järv of Prints Dolls and her home I found on my post 4 Feb 09 [New] Favourite Palatial Home! Enjoy. x

The Power of Styling Placement - Ocassional Lamps & Chairs...

Top & Centre Images - Nate Berkus

Above: Design Trend Forecast: Fall 2009 Trend: Industrial Chic - A surprising amount of metal is being used for furniture. The circle cutouts, matte finish, ring pulls and wheeled feet make this chest of drawers feel like a product of the industrial revolution. Adjacent is a metal chair based on a classic form; the rust marks give a cheeky nod to the past.

How could you ignore the power of 'styling placement' when it comes to occasional lamps & chairs... Here I have found some of my favourite room images - of colour palette: tonally neutral natural hues - creating a somber-elegant- sophisticated - natural atmosphere; of ambient lighting with distinctive urn-pedestal style lamp bases and large drum shaped fabric covered shades; partnered with a trophy occasional chair - with either a feature painted frame work or unique button or contrast upholstery. Each small space making for a place to sit, rest, retreat and relax...

Black & White - Graphic Love...

Today I love ... these rooms (created by Nate Berkus - also of Oprah [Winfrey] fame) are bathed in the harmonious contrasts of Black & White each plays with positive & negative space in their placements of colour & shade; the light & dark and a fabulous graphic element which is achieved through linking artwork - one of a painterly style in the framed canvas above the bed instead of a head board drawing the eye up (as seen in the bedroom - top) and the photographic piece as ships mast and upper deck area - framed and mounted in white allowing it to float and sail between the white lamps (as seen in the hall console/ study area). Through considered placement and linking colour through artwork (as a joining vehicle - like that of a print in a fashion story) contrasts and limited colour can flow. The fresh clean, contemporary air, adding texture and the personal touches with photos of family /friends carefully placed and the art work really does appeal to me.
