Living Room Lust...

So many favourites in one room -sunlit, blue & white, stone, a fireplace, ginger jars & delftware style plates, a generous armoire, a cosy [toile print] lounge and two velvet plush french blue armchairs! It's my decor candy store - all my favourites! Living Room lust - you bet! Enjoy x

Like I'm in a Candy Store...

I have been pouring over my March/April 2010 issue of Vogue Living for the past couple of weeks since it arrived in the post! I particularly love the article 'Chef's Palette' on 'Caterer's Extraordinaire' Peter Lin & John Wilson's Sydney apartment. Photographed by Petrina Tinslay, Produced by Alexandra Gordon and Written by Kristy De Garis.
Of course you say - I love their expansive pedestal table that is almost completely lined with multiple blue & white porcelain ginger jars, & statuesque Pink Lilac Phalaenopsis orchids - a combination of true heaven for me!
Not to forget - one end of their living space with the fabulous graphic black & white canvas with it's painterly lines combined with wine coloured upholstered armchairs, teamed with fresh, bright coral coloured peonies. So gorgeous - that it made the March/April 2010 cover.... of course! Be sure to procure your copy of this month's Vogue Living now!

Two Ways With Blue & White - Entry Ways...

[image 1] Fresh, Casual & Relaxed
[image 2] Formal Contemporary Elegance

After looking through 'House Beautiful' the other day I came across these wonderful 'Blue & White' foyers- entry ways with each their very own feeling and message to the people the as walk through the front door of these homes...
[Top image] A Relaxed, Fresh & Casual approach is created with light aqua blue wales paired with white & light raw timber finishes, and painted limed floorboards with simple decor such as the chair, planter & picture frame - accessories with a pair of boots at the bottom of the stairs and jacket hanging over the staircase rail. [Bottom image] Some of my clients have seen this one before - I think it's a great image to show how to create a 'Formal Contemporary Elegance' that is easy to refresh with updated colour using new accessories, or fresh flowers. The two oversize ginger jars [a favourite of mine] placed under the console combined with the blue & white porcelain vase creates a formal balanced 'triangle' - forcing the eye to focus towards the centre of the console. This focus & formal symmetry is further enforced by balancing the two console lamps with their traditional pleated shades and rectangular mirror as a backing canvas - keeping it light & airy despite the use of dark timber and flooring.
Either way there's a look and so many design elements here that would appeal to your entry way, if it's not blue & white, then why not try green & white, black & white, canary yellow & grey/ white or other high chroma colours such as magenta & orange? Have fun with it... updating is easy when you have the right foundations.

Daring Colour & Flowers for Friday...

Happy Friday... I needed some visual 'pick-me-up' for the end of the week, I've been battling a miserable ear ache, and what better way than this fabulous image showing a daring dash of vibrant candied pink fuchsia wall, teamed with off-white wainscoting, accents Black & Grey, and a favourite of mine -a Blue & White pattern belonging to a handsome Ginger jar housing soft pink blossom stems! I think Anna, from Absolutely Beautiful Things would love this too!
How about you - do you dare to add some colour to your home this weekend?
Thank you for making Palatial Living your inspiration zone this week! Enjoy your weekend - see you next week! S xx

An Enduring Affair with Blue & White...& Plantation.

Feels like home... The palm fronds add a fresh natural organic element to the room - filtering light through the room. I would love to have this pair of blue & white ceramic base lamps that I am already eyeing off at Architectural Decor, located in Lewisham, Sydney NSW.
Adoration - Blue & White Ginger Jars placed on the top of the armoire, and indigo ground plump cushions with subtle white print & embroidery detail.
Yes, I am having an ongoing affair with blue & white! Thanks to Anna's blog from Absolutely Beautiful Things I have found the work of Phoebe Howard and Leah Kennelly's blog of the Howard business Mrs Howard's Personal Shopper.
I adore the fresh, elegant, plantation style approach with this room - protected in natural neutral shades the palette is combined with blue & white ceramics and plump cushions, fresh green palm fronds and black trunk bamboo, well placed pots of phalaenopsis orchids with their delicate rounded flat petals, combined with the elongated curtains . I find these rooms refreshing, easy to live in and at the same time to be admired through their harmonious balance in colour, shape, texture and style...
