Palatial House Snoop...Contemporary Cottage on the Beaches

Nestled in one of my favourite Northern Beaches suburbs of Avalon, you will find this gorgeous Palatial Contemporary Sandstone & Weatherboard Cottage. I loved it for it's successful combination of keeping original integrity and it's newly renovated spaces in keeping with a French Riviera-meets-Hampton's style with an Australian coastal lifestyle flavour.
I am always a 'sucker' for sandstone features particularly when teamed with a fireplace, as well as the comfortable freshness of the undercover verandah sitting & dining area - much like a Queenslander, quintessentially Australian. The simplicity of the neutral, soft colour scheme lends itself to bringing the outdoors in with considered use of stone, natural timber, and loved leather.
Take a look, have a snoop & see what you think.....

House Snoop...'Hill House'

I love this home's Hampton's style - from the colouring , to the enveloping front verandah, to the home's monogram 'HH' on the double front doors, combined with it's beachside location and it's overall presence - where else would you look! It is indeed a very stylish, elegantly classic home. I'm not sure how long this home has been on the market as I remember seeing it in my 'house snoop' travels nearly a year ago...so I am surprised it hasn't been snatched up yet! Take a look...

Something About Typeface...

[1] Australian Home Beautiful August 2010

[3] Wood Block Printing Letters, Rust - Avalon

I am in love with typeface 'letters', I know they have been on trend for a little while now but nothing says 'personal' when you add your own initial or a monogram to something that's yours - be it a living or office space, a bed head, to a book or a pillow/ quilt set! And these images from recent interior mags now proves to me that I need an 'S' for my design area, and maybe a 'V' too.
I particularly love our zinc green number '9' that my best girlfriend bought us from [fave store]  Rust in Avalon, as a special wedding anniversary present for our first home. The other day I bought my daughter Isabelle a capital 'I' from a children's store, I think it's getting a lick of 'Raspberry paint and being hung with a Pisatchio grograin ribbon above her cot....now for mine, I think an 'S' and a 'V' for Verandah too!

A Very Familiar Home...

[click on image / article to enlarge]
I thought this house was familiar when I reading through my Australian Home Beautiful March 2010 issue... I fell in love with it after snooping around on Domain.com.au, you may remember seeing it on a Palatial Living 'Mid Week House Snoop' posted back on 8 March 2009!
I'm so happy to see that the owners have great taste in dogs... looks like they have a gorgeous black 'oodle' of some kind! My two fur kids would live this home too!

Mid Week - House Snoop...

[Image 3] Back Yard - Undercover outdoor room
[Image 4] Family / Lounge Room
[Image 5] Spacious - indoor - dining area
[Image 6] - Combined open living - Lounge - Kitchen & Dining space lead onto the back yard.

My mid-week house snoop has led me to this gorgeous home located on Bareena Road in Avalon, on Sydney's Northern Beaches. I love the open spaciousness of the combined kitchen/ dining and lounge room where multi slide timber doors open up to a deck, undercover outdoor space & luscious pool area. I adore the Indigenous artwork in the main lounge area - that helps bring decor colour accents through to the remaining spaces. A pet fave of mine is the clear, seamless stepped pool fence, combined with an exterior of stained timber, neutral render and sandstone.

Best Palatial Homes.... A Real Estate Nosey.

At heart I am a big nosey - a bonafide snoop - I am the one who gets into trouble for looking for the presents around birthday & Christmas, but with that also comes a healthy curiosity and a need to find & search out for anything that sparks my interest... as it often does with design, colour, product, retail and anything else between. So I often look on real estate websites [trying not to cheat on my own home] for new ideas, developments, homes, and gardens. Here I am in love with this particular home nestled into the bushland edge of Avalon in Sydney's Northern Beaches - with its inside out approach - velvet green lawn, sparkling cool pool, fresh sophisticated whilst still contemporary and friendly interiors, and not to mention my penchant for puppy dogs - a little black one right in the middle of the back lawn!
