Shelf Lust...

I'd love to have orderly open kitchen shelves just like this! This is where is pays to have white or similar plain tonal dinnerware, classic glass shapes and multiple canisters & jars of the same style. This is a quick way of creating a clean, uniform & stylish look.
But in my house I'm not sure how long they'd last after 1 unpack of the dishwasher [by dear husband trying to understand my anal retentiveness on 'style']...So I'll keep wishing!

Light & Bright...

Lately I have been looking for desks for a client request - her two girls, one in high school and the other about to enter high school, need a new study desk solution. I have conducted a pretty thorough search an found many individual desks and a couple of long/share type desks...hence the inspiration for this image.  Design problem - they are moving so it can't be a built in cabinetry number [maybe in the next house they have].
All the same this look would be easy to carry out - a bench top to measure/ fit and a favourite chest of drawers centred to share - such as here, either end can be propped by support legs to fit the height of the drawers. Voila!
I love the lightness & brightnees, and the accented touch of cherry red amongst it all... notice the painted floors, the stainless steel dual lamp and function of the space - these elements ensure to keep it contemporary not dull. S x

Room of the Day...+ Love this Master Bedroom.

I love this calm, serene, contemporary master bedroom.... it may be monochromatic but the visual and tactile texture of the soft furnishings, lamps & accessories is certainly a great example of how to bring depth & interest into a simple colour scheme... x

More Home Office Ideas...

Just got some finishing touches to do to the home office and a little bit of labelling left! Yes - it feels like it has been going on for a while - this redo of the home office, normally pre-baby it would have been done & dusted by now! But drilling & hammering, and shuffling [next to our baby's room] do don't seem to go with sleep times! Still it's amazing how you really do pack everything in 'a sleep time' - we'll get there! In the mean time I love this home office re-do from MyHome Ideas. The wall colour is very similar to the shade I have used Dulux's 'Linseed' Full tint. Take a look. Enjoy x

Grey Scale... Fabulous Bedrooms in Grey.

Painting to change something be it furniture or walls, can be like the old saying 'change is as good as a holiday!' - hmmmm well I'm thinking of painting our master bedroom a shade of grey, and maybe the furniture too [this or maybe white, I don't think our room size can handle black furniture] - this will of course depend on the strength and base colour of the 'grey' wall paint... and of course the look I want to achieve - an 'understated contemporary elegance'. I think my husband will be surprised when he gets home from work one day! Here's some of the images I have pulled for sources of inspiration...

Grey with Black, Off White & Burnt Orange
Grey with Bitter Cocoa & Meringue White

[image 4] A Cherry Red dining table creates a sensual modern eating experience
[image 5] For the classicists - here accents of lipstick [blue] red are used in soft furnishings - cushions & curtains, as well as accessories with a black / french navy & off white/ ivory palette.
[image 6] For the modern retro/ contemporary tastes here's a great way to bring a red-orange [vermilion] into your living space with some mi century style furniture paired back with a pale blue wall and floor rug - makes for a quirky fresh take on a tricky colour.

[image 7] A red wall in a living room can be easily broken up with wall shelving, neutral tones & white for a softer effect.
[image 8] Crimson Pink Red Feature Wall - play with Valentine's heart messages & decorate with fresh flowers family pictures in black & white as small vignette to the ones you love.

[image 9] Ruby Red bedroom walls paired back with white soft furnishings and mid tone timber stains. If you're not sure about colouring your whole room why not just paint the wall behind your bed. That wall you can see & enjoy the colour as you are in the room but once in bed it's not looking at you!
Colour Inspiration - with upcoming St Valentine's Day I have been inspired to find spaces coloured with Red! Following from my post yesterday on up Colour Styling with Red for outdoor [garden] spaces... Here are some wonderful examples I found in my image files & wanted to share with you on how you can colour style your home or office interior with a varying shades of red - whichever your style & taste. Decorating In Colour... 4 Ways with Valentine's Pink.

[image 1] Washington, D.C., designer Alessandra Branca paired a shocking hot pink with brown to liven up a traditional Georgetown townhouse. The result is a warm, inviting space that's sure to inspire a smile.
[image 2] Pale pink certainly seems like an odd choice for a modern dining room, but in this cool California cottage, it just works.
[image 3] Fave & Famed Interior Design Kelly Wearstler - here her home - her inspiration on colour from fashion: 'In the fashion realm, I admire Valentino for his dramatic use of color and dynamic patterns, Sonia Rykiel for her color sensibility and avant-garde combinations, and Coco Chanel for her revolutionary use of contrast, texture, fabrics, and weaving.' Interview with My Home Ideas.
[image 4] With diverse hues from blushing to shocking, the color pink is not just for little girls.

With St. Valentine's Day upon us - Sunday 14th February - I thought it would be lovely to share some 'Pink' inspired spaces with you... [St. Valentine's Day] Although traditionally viewed as an American celebration 'holiday', recently it has been embraced more & more and it is becoming increasingly popular through many other countries, such as Australia...
